Camera-Ready Art
When acceptable digital art is not available, camera-ready
hard art reduces (and sometimes eliminates) art charges, and
helps to ensure a satisfactory imprint. Read the
requirements below, then click here for how to mail your art
to us.
Camera ready art IS:
- Complete, at actual imprint size, requiring no touch-ups,
changes, or typesetting
- Same as above, requiring minimal re-sizing
- Complete layouts, not pieces requiring assembly
- Crisp line art or properly registered separations printed
in black to:
- a laser printer on smooth white paper (not photocopier
paper) at 600 dpi or greater, unfolded
- film positives or negatives
- repro paper, PMTs or "slicks"
Camera-ready art IS NOT:
- Anything requiring changes, typesetting or color
separating
- Graphics or photographs you found displayed on a website
- Inferior quality art that has been re-sampled or re-sized,
then printed in an otherwise acceptable way
- Ink-jet printer or dot-matrix printer output
- Photocopies, textured paper, faxes, photographs,
newsprint, business cards
- Very small but otherwise clean art requiring substantial
enlargement (>200%)
- Full-color output of any kind, or halftones (dot patterns)
printed on paper or film
- Any composite (non-separated) multicolored item printed as
grays
- Cloth, art printed with metallic inks or foils, textured
inks, raised lettering
- Rough hand-drawn art (unless that's how you want it to
look)
- Anything stapled, folded, paper-clipped, taped or written
on
- Imprinted products

VECTOR ART EPS for
vector art. Send all Illustrator and Freehand art files as
EPS with fonts converted to outlines.
Illustrator's native AI format, to version 10.0, is
accepted.
CorelDraw users must "Save as..." Illustrator AI files,
with the "(Export) Type as Curves" option selected. Select
the highest version of Illustrator you can export, version
8.0 if available in your version of CorelDraw.
Do not send other programs' files as EPS. This can damage
your art or impair our ability to print and/or edit it.
Do not embed bitmaps/scans in vector art files.
DIGITAL PICTURE FROM CAMERAS
Note: Digital Camera photos are generally of very low
resolution and overall quality, and should only in CMYK or
single-color halftone-capable printing processes. For most
imprint methods, they cannot be used at all. They are
acceptable if they meet the resolution requirements for the
product being imprinted. You may call us for assistance
(207-990-6022) before you take the picture.
- Use the highest possible resolution (image density) your
camera allows.
- Save the image as a .tif file, if possible.
- Don't re-sample or compress digital camera images, or save
them as GIF, BMP or JPEG* files. These formats distort the
image, destroy color information and reduce the overall
quality of your image in order to reduce file size. (*If
TIFF is not an option, you can save the image as a JPEG at
the maximum quality setting, little or no compression).
- Do not edit digital camera images in any way, or try to
correct sharpness, brightness or color.
- Do not add text or other art to a digital camera photo.
Send any copy or other pieces of art separately and we can
combine them.
Other Formats
Other files, including those created in Word, WordPerfect,
Excel, Print Shop, Print Artist, PowerPoint, any other word
processing, database or presentation program or other
non-commercial graphics program are not acceptable art
files.
If your program supports Exporting or Saving as one of the
file formats we do accept, the file may work. We will need
to evaluate the file first, as many consumer-level programs
do not accurately support these file formats.
You can use your word processing program to save
personalization lists or blocks of unformatted ad copy for
us to style and layout. Select "Save As..." from the file
menu in your word processing program and select Text Only,
Plain Text or Unformatted Text, and send that file to us. |
